FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHO IS STOP THE BUG?
Americans are responding quickly to the shortage of masks, and we plan to act in coalition with a number of groups. What we offer in particular: We are led by a first responder, working to help other first responders. In the Seattle area, and nationwide, first responders are facing a shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE), such as masks, and gowns. We have centralized volunteer efforts from individuals and businesses to supply that inventory. Besides getting PPE to those who need it most, we are the central hub for other organizations to run information through, to focus and collaborate efforts locally, and across the country.
HOW IS THIS EFFORT DIFFERENT THAN OTHERS?
We are in partnership with Open Source COVID19 Medical Supplies group with over 71K members globally; and getusppe.org. We have close contacts with the Washington State Covid-19 Response Team, businesses, the tech industry, and many others -- a network of over 150K. This is helping us to connect quickly to supplement government efforts, centralize volunteer efforts and share them across all hospital networks (not just the ones with the most resources), and quickly mobilize to track and move PPE and equipment to those hospitals and organizations that need it most urgently.
WHAT PATTERN SHOULD I USE FOR MY MASK?
We have patterns, tutorials, valuable information regarding materials, and other resources on our Masks + PPE Guides page.
HOW DID YOU DECIDE ON THE RIGHT PATTERN TO USE?
First, we want to emphasize that many workers are using bandanas to protect themselves. Our goal is "better than a bandana," and for that purpose, many patterns work. We do have some recommended patterns based on our conversations with medical providers.
I REPRESENT A BUSINESS, HOW CAN I HELP?
We need manufacturers, shippers (truckload, LTL, and small parcel), and raw materials (elastic, cotton + polypropylene fabric). Please fill out our intake form HERE to register your interest. If you have manufacturing capability, you don't need to wait for us to contact you. Just choose a pattern from the mask-and-gown maker's sub-page and email us at firstname.lastname@example.org to let us know where and when you'll be ready.
HOW CAN I HELP FINANCIALLY?
By making a generous donation, you can help us get necessary PPE to our frontline heroes. Your donation will help cover ongoing materials costs for maker masks, face shields, isolation gowns, N95 respirators, nitrile gloves, hand sanitizer, as well as maker and organizational support needs. Please visit our Donate page to make a financial contribution. Thank you!
